"I've been reading on the forum about mp4 files and it seems there are some mp4 files that can play on WD TV and others that can't. I've only had the hub a week and last week I played an mp4 file and it worked. Yesterday I upgraded to 2.07.17 and tried playing a different mp4 file and didn't work."

"Having a lot of trouble playing MP4 video files. Plays for 20sec and then freezes. Exit out and then every video file give an unsupported file error."


From WD TV community, we noticed many guys are troubled the MP4 on WD TV playback issue. Here I'd like to share some useful tips to help users open and play MP4 on WD TV with ease based on my own experience.

First, you can try factory reset, factory restart, rollback firmware and even customer support over the phone. If it still didn't work, you should consider the format compatibility issue. As we know, WD TV can support MPEG4 and H.264 MP4 video, if you got some other MP4 source like encoded H.265, it won't supported by the device.

b. Copy the files to it as a network device

c. Connect the Hub directly to the computer using CAT5 and a NIC

d. Remove the HDD from the Hub and connect it on a SATA connection or a USB SATA adapter (Destroys your Warranty)

e. Remove your computer's HDD and connect it to the HUB by whatever means you want to use (MAY destroy your PC's warranty)

f. Copy files to a backup USB HDD then connect it to the Hub and copy the files

g. Use a USB thumbdrive
