Import ALEXA Mini 4K into Adobe Premiere/Avid MC
The ARRI ALEXA Mini has caught lots of people's eye, which is a versatile additional tool in the ALEXA camera range. One of the outstanding features of ALEXA Mini is that it can capture 4K UHD videos in ProRes file type. When you got some 4K footage, you may wanna import the 4K video from ALEXA Mini to Adobe Premiere/Avid MC for editing. Unfortunately after import, the 4K ProRes files are not supported by Avid and Adobe PP- there is no image at all. As far as I know, ProRes file format from ALEXA Mini is beyond the compatibility of Adobe Premiere Pro. And searching online, some guys mentioned ProRes workflow on Avid Media Composer. Yes, ProRes can be used in Avid Media Composer with AMA, but it is little more complicated with ProRes; AMA linking to the ProRes files will not allow for the clips to be consolidated. In order to work ALEXA Mini 4K footage in Adobe Premiere, Avid MC smoothly, a better way is to transcode ALEXA Mini 4K ProRes to a more "edit" friendly codec- like DNxHD for Avid, MPEG-2 for Premiere Pro.
